The Waiting Game

waiting

Waiting… What comes to mind when you hear that word? How many times have you heard the quote “Good thing come to those who wait.” What does this quote mean nowadays really? Most people don’t believe in that anymore, waiting. It might be because most people feel like waiting is a lazy act sitting back on your hammock with a ice tea in your hand and just wait for the good to fall in your lap. And we all know that doesn’t happen, which leads to people just thinking if that’s what you want you have to get it no matter what. We have turned into a generation where whatever we want and desire we need right that minute because we feel like if we don’t do it right that minute we might lose out perfect opportunity. Also we have become a generation of self sufficient and independent people. Where “if you want something done you have to do it yourself”, and relaying on someone else is unheard of. We have the idea of waiting all wrong.
Waiting isn’t lazy or us not being able to do things ourselves. Waiting is

  • Patience… A word that I personally use in the phrase “I have no patience for this” on a daily basis. But waiting is patience. Without patience we are impulsive and do whatever comes to mind whatever we feel because we want to or because we want it. But being this way can lead to bad results because we don’t have enough time which waiting can give us to get a clearer view of the situation. We need patience to hear and see from God if something is the right thing. This happens in one of the most obvious situations relationships, but not to get into that because that a whole other topic in itself, it also happens in situations like moving on in life. A lot of us are at the age where we are either leaving our parents home for college or leaving either our parents home or the place we live in now because we are ready to start our own lives or a new life. But if we don’t have the patience and wait to see where God is showing us is the best place for us we could end up somewhere we hate and where for a while at least we can’t leave. Patience in waiting helps us listen.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. (‭Psalm‬ ‭37‬:‭7‬)

  • Obedience… Something every christian (and every person) should be practicing everyday. Being obedient to our parents, leaders and most importantly God. One way to practice obedience is by waiting. Sometimes the things we want the most are the things we have to be the most obedient about by not doing them. Like when we want to go out with friends to a concert that a person in authority over us tell us not to because it doesn’t suit us to be there as Christians we are being obedient by not going. Waiting requires this kind of obedience where we really want to do, have, or go somewhere but we wait to see what God is saying for us to do or where He is leading us to, and until He says it’s time for us to have what we are desiring or until He shows us something better for us. Our obedience in waiting will bring us the good things.

The blessing is always on the other side obedience- Chad Veach

If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land; (‭Isaiah‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬)

  • Trust… This is what I think is the hardest about waiting. Because when we are waiting we have to trust that God has an answer. And that’s where one of our problems in waiting is because many of us aren’t letting ourselves trust God with with our futures. We have grown in this thought of “if you want something right you have to do it yourself” so we don’t trust others to do things for us. Because they might not do what we want the way we like or want them done. But that’s the thing God isn’t going to have our futures be the way we think is right, it’s going to to be the way He knows is best. We need to trust that God knows best and just wait to see where it is He is leading us.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. (‭Proverbs‬ ‭3‬:‭5‬)

Waiting us not easy but we need to learn to be a generation who waits on and for God for everything. Then the good things and blessings He has for us we can receive and achieve, because we know how to wait and listen to what God has for us and when is the right time for them.

The Lord is good to those who wait for him, to the soul who seeks him. (‭Lamentations‬ ‭3‬:‭25‬)
